Abstract Cerebral abscess following cholesteatomatous otomastoiditis is a life-threatening complication and poses diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. We report a case of life-threatening cerebritis and cerebral abscess due to a collection of pus from an aerobic super infections occurring months after the apparent resolution of an otogenic brain abscess in a 67-year-old immunocompetent Italian female. Brain abscess formation within an endodermal cyst of the frontal lobe: case report.

A 38-year-old man with a right frontal lobe cyst was treated by endoscopic cystoventriculostomy in 1998. Cyst capsule histology revealed surprisingly an endodermal cyst. The patient was reoperated for cyst expansion by endoscopic re-cystoventriculostomy in 2005. In 2007, the patient suffered from brain abscess formation within the cyst which was punctured. The history was positive for a dental infection. In 2008, a recurrent brain abscess in the cyst occurred. The cyst was completely resected. There was no history of trauma or sinusitis. Abstract: Brain abscesses (BAs) are focal infections of the central nervous system (CNS) that start as a localised area of weakening of the brain parenchyma (cerebritis) and develops into a collection of pus surrounded by a capsule. Fluency and rule breaking behaviour in the frontal cortex

Design (DF) and phonemic fluency tests (FAS; D-KEFS, 2001) are commonly used to investigate voluntary generation. Despite this, several important issues remain poorly investigated. In a sizeable sample of patients with focal left or right frontal lesion we established that voluntary generation performance cannot be accounted for by fluid intelligence. For DF we found patients performed significantly worse than healthy controls (HC) only on the switch condition. However, no significant difference between left and right frontal patients was found. Listeria monocytogenes (LM) bacterium is a cause of central nervous system (CNS) infection and the most common cause of rhombencephalitis in immunocompetent elderly. Evolution of brain abscess in cats formation of capsule and resolution of brain edema

Brain abscess evolution was studied in an experimental model in the cat correlating the computed tomographic scan appearance with intracranial pressure, brain edema and histopathological findings. Brain inflammation was produced by direct inoculation of Staphylococcus aureus into the white matter. Abscesses developed in all animals. The ring enhancement around the necrotic focus seen at an early stage after contrast-medium injection cannot be equated with capsule formation as long as the abscess diameter increased. Isolation of Abiotrophia adiacens from a brain abscess which developed in a patient after neurosurgery.

ABSTRACT We report the case of a patient who developed a large brain abscess after neurosurgery. Cerebrospinal fluid from the abscess drainage yielded Abiotrophia adiacens -specific PCR products and microorganisms that were identified by conventional microbiological methods and by 16S ribosomal DNA analysis as Abiotrophia adiacens , which was formerly classified as a member of nutritionally variant streptococci.
